Easy Bak Kut Teh (Malaysian Herbal Pork Rib Soup)
Serves 4–6 | Ready in 1–1½ Hours
Ingredients
- 1 packet Tean's Gourmet Bak Kut Teh Herbs & Spices Premix (35g)
- 1 kg (2.2 lb) pork ribs
- 2 liters (8 cups) water
- 8–10 cloves garlic (leave whole, peeled)
- 1 tablespoon light soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon dark soy sauce (optional, for color)
- Salt and white pepper to taste
Optional Ingredients
- Mushrooms (shiitake or button)
- Fried tofu puffs
- Enoki mushrooms
- Napa cabbage
Instructions
- Bring a pot of water to a boil and blanch the pork ribs for 2–3 minutes. Drain and rinse.
- In a clean pot, add the pork ribs, 2 liters of water, and the whole garlic cloves.
- Add the entire packet of Tean's Gourmet Bak Kut Teh Herbs & Spices Premix.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 60–90 minutes, until the ribs are tender.
- Stir in the light soy sauce and dark soy sauce (if using).
- Add mushrooms, tofu puffs, or other optional ingredients during the last 10–15 minutes of cooking.
- Taste and season with salt and white pepper if needed.
- Serve hot.
